2020 has started off with a 'bang'. Figuratively. 100 years after the 1st World War ends, the planet and humanity are faced with another huge change. Without a trial period. We've had technology at our disposal for decades now. And while we've had tools to enable smarter working and human connection, we revert to the familiar norm. Travel miles to build relationships. Follow the clock in and clock out mentality of the industrial age. So when the universe steps in, she can be heartless. 'I believe you’re better than this, guys'. Here’s a test. No backup. Enter Covid-19. At the time of writing, It was now week 1 of the 'Remote Working' directive issued by the UK government and executed by governments worldwide. At this time, teams are being mobilised to work from home to continue business efforts. Attempts to help each other by getting involved and collecting data commence. Everyone has more check-ins and stand-ups fill spaces in everyone’s diaries. "The internet can be an enabler... it can also be a supressor" There’s an opportunity here. An opportunity to solve problems through sharing of context and utilisation of the creative skills that exist among us ‘regular folk’. The question is whether we are ready. Ready to take the time to share that context. Ready to listen if and when individuals start to creak from the load. Ready to be vulnerable and show that we care. We haven't really been load tested... until now. And it's live! We’ll survive. Of course, we will. At least those among us who are mentally and physically able to. How will we feel about ourselves though if we missed the opportunity to take care of those less able? Because, isn’t that really what is being tested? Our strength of character? Our humanity?
